1. It is FRSC-accredited

In Nigeria, anyone applying for a driver’s licence for the first time must be at least 18 and must have completed training at a driving school, according to the FRSC driver’s licence portal. That makes accreditation by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) the first thing to ask any school about, before you pay.

CARO Wander’s Abuja branch is an FRSC-accredited driving school. The training you complete with us, and the driving certificate you receive at the end, count towards your first driver’s licence.

2. You learn in dual-control cars

A dual-control car has an extra brake pedal on the instructor’s side, so your instructor can slow down or stop the car at any moment. For a beginner it is a vital safety feature, and it takes much of the fear out of your first drives on busy Abuja roads.

CARO Wander trains learners in dual-control cars, automatic or manual. Choose the gearbox you plan to drive after your training. If you are not sure, learning manual means you can drive either kind of car.

3. It follows a written curriculum

A good school teaches to a plan rather than simply driving you around. CARO’s 8-week programme has 3 sessions a week and at least 30 hours behind the wheel, and it covers knowledge, skill and attitude in 8 modules:

  1. Meet your vehicle: the controls, the cockpit drill and pre-drive safety checks.
  2. Controls and moving off: clutch control, moving off, smooth stopping and steering.
  3. Roads and traffic: speed, following distance, overtaking, emergency stops and traffic signs.
  4. Junctions and roundabouts: give-way and right-of-way rules, and single- and multi-lane roundabouts.
  5. Independent driving and navigation: following directions and road signs on your own.
  6. Hazard perception and defensive driving: spotting hazards early and looking out for other road users.
  7. Night, weather and special conditions: using your lights, wet roads and stopping distances.
  8. Mock test and final assessment: a full mock practical test and your Certificate of Completion.

Your progress is measured against the Caro Competency Standard: 80% across all 8 skill areas, with weekly assessments and a final mock test. See the full curriculum for what each module covers.

4. Its instructors are certified and patient

Most nervous learners don’t need more theory. They need a calm instructor who explains, shows and lets them try again. CARO’s instructors are certified, and they teach complete beginners as well as drivers who want to rebuild their confidence after years away from the wheel.

If you would rather keep one instructor from start to finish, our VIP plans come with a dedicated senior instructor and priority scheduling. You can meet the CARO team before you book.

5. Its fees are published

You should know what you will pay before your first lesson, so CARO publishes its full Abuja price list. Automatic lessons start at ₦120,000 and manual lessons at ₦145,000, for a 2-week refresher at 40 minutes a day. The complete 8-week beginner course costs ₦350,000 to ₦485,000 in an automatic car and ₦415,000 to ₦580,000 in a manual.

The extras are listed too: a learner’s permit costs ₦10,000, a driving certificate ₦15,000 and a 5-year driver’s licence ₦50,000. For every plan side by side, read our guide to driving school fees in Abuja.

6. Its lessons fit your week

CARO Abuja is open Monday to Friday from 8 AM to 8 PM and on Saturday from 8 AM to 6 PM, so you can train before work, after school or at the weekend. Choose Plan B for 40 minutes a day, or Plan A for 1 hour a day and more time behind the wheel.

Want lessons at a place and time that suit you? Book a private instructor for one-on-one lessons at your location, in automatic or manual.

7. It helps you get your licence

Learning to drive is only part of the job: you also need the paperwork. For a first Nigerian driver’s licence, the FRSC process runs like this:

  1. Complete your training at a driving school and get your certificate.
  2. Apply and pay for your licence on the FRSC portal, then confirm your payment.
  3. Take your driving test with the Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIO).
  4. Do your biometric capture at a Driver’s Licence Centre.
  5. Collect your licence.

CARO can help along the way. Our additional services cover a learner’s permit (₦10,000), a driving certificate (₦15,000) and a 5-year driver’s licence (₦50,000), and VIP and Captain SPATA already include the certificate and learner’s permit.

8. It is easy to reach

A school close to home or work makes it easier to keep every lesson. CARO’s Abuja branch is on 6th Avenue in Gwarinpa, at Adkan Garden (Ever Young Gym), opposite Tastia, Galadima. It is easy to reach from Life Camp, Kubwa, Jabi and Dawaki.
